ChillPaw started because of one bad August afternoon.
A dog pacing from room to room, digging at the tile, refusing to settle anywhere. Fans running. AC running. Still panting. Anyone who has watched a dog do that knows the feeling: you can cool a house, but you cannot cool an animal wearing a fur coat in July.
So we went looking for cooling that actually worked, and we found that most of it was overpriced, over-engineered, or built to photograph well and fall apart by August. The short list of what survived became our first two products.
Then people who bought a cooling mat started asking what leash we would recommend. What bed. What to do about the nail trims. It turned out the same problem existed everywhere in the aisle: too much choice, most of it bad, and no way to tell which was which.
So ChillPaw is now the whole aisle, filtered. Around forty products across walks, toys, beds, feeding, grooming, training and cooling.
Who runs this
ChillPaw is owned and operated by Daniel Kafie in Houston, Texas. It is an independent business, not a storefront for a larger company, and it is small enough that the person who picks the products is the same person who answers your email. You can reach him directly at support@chillpawpets.com.
How we do things
We say no to most of it. For every product on this site there are several we looked at and rejected. Things that cost too much to land here at a fair price. Things sold in ten variations that nobody could tell apart. Three different portable water bottles that all did the same job worse than the one we already sell. A catalog is only useful if somebody has already done the discarding.
We tell you where it comes from. We do not run our own warehouse. Your order is picked and shipped by our fulfillment partner overseas, which takes 7 to 12 business days to reach your door. Duties are prepaid, so nothing lands on your doorstep with a bill attached. That partnership is also why a mat that costs $60 to $80 in a pet store costs $34.99 here. We would rather be straight about the wait than surprise you with it.
Thirty days, and nothing to ship back. Dogs are opinionated. If yours will not use it, tell us within 30 days of delivery and we will refund you in full or send a different size, and you keep the original. Return postage on something that came from overseas would cost more than the item and it would only be binned at the other end, so we do not ask for it. Pass it to a friend or your local shelter instead. If it arrives damaged, send a photo and we will replace it free.
We answer our own messages. ChillPaw is a small operation. When you write in, a person reads it.
What we are not
We are not veterinarians, and nothing we sell treats a medical condition. Good gear makes a dog more comfortable. It does not replace shade, water, exercise, and judgment about when to skip the midday walk. If your dog is disoriented, vomiting, or collapsing in the heat, that is an emergency. Call your vet.
