Does the cooling mat need to go in the freezer?

No. The ChillPaw mat is ice-silk fabric that pulls heat away on contact, activated by your pet's own body weight. Chilling it isn't necessary and isn't recommended.

How long does a self-cooling mat stay cool?

Through a normal nap. Give it 15 to 20 minutes with nobody on it and it resets itself. Keep it out of direct sun.

There's no gel or liquid inside, so a curious nibble isn't a hazard. Heavy chewers should still be supervised, as with any bed.

Can I leave it in the crate all day?

Yes. That's where most customers use it. It wipes clean or machine washes on cold, then air dries.

Does the cooling mat work for cats?

Very well. Cats tend to find it before you finish unrolling it. The Small size fits most carriers.

What size cooling mat should I get?

Small fits pets up to about 20 lb, Medium covers 20 to 50 lb, Large is for anything over 50 lb. When you're between sizes, go up, because pets sprawl when they're hot. If you get it wrong, ChillPaw swaps the size free.

Small — cats, puppies, and small breeds
Medium — many medium-size dogs

Use it in a shaded, ventilated space and always make fresh water available. A cooling mat is a comfort item, not a substitute for monitoring a pet in hot weather. If you suspect heat illness, contact a veterinarian promptly.
